Deferral Request Form

Please fill out this form if you would like to request to defer your application to another semester. You can request a deferral to a term up to one year in the future from your original date of admission. 

Ph.D. Applicants:
Do Not use this form, submit your request by emailing vasephd@usc.edu.

If you have previously been denied admission to a graduate program at USC Viterbi School of Engineering, you are not eligible to request a deferral.

If you have been issued an I-20 and want to use that I-20/SEVIS Record for the deferred semester, then you must do the following by your program start date:
  1. Submit your deferral request 
  2. If readmitted to your deferred term, you should immediately submit the Statement of Intent to Enroll
  3. Request an updated I-20 through Trojan International within 30 day of your program start date
    • If you do not follow the above steps and do not request your updated I-20 within 30 days of your program start date, then your I-20 will be canceled (for initial I-20 students) or terminated (for Transfer I-20 holders)
    • International students can still submit deferral requests beyond 30 days of the program start date, but will be issued a new I-20
